Rubbish Alphabet

I think that 'rubbish' refers to items of no more use. So I took a photo of all the bits of rubbish I could find around my house, such as empty Pringles packets and Paddle Pop sticks, which I then cut and pasted together using Photoshop, to create the shapes of letters. I did a rough/messy job, in attempt to immitate a pile of rubbish. My intended audience would be anyone who would use these 'trashy' letters.

  1. Q1. Is there enough of a difference between formal and informal design?

I really like the Rhythm and Balance of this design which are good aspects for a formal design. I think the formal and informal parts of the design work really well together because in terms of the informal part of the design, the continuance and similarity of the fonts make it really nice to look at. I think the Alignment for each letter could be slightly improved - keeping all the letters aligned with each other.

Q2. Is the concept appropriate for informal?

I think the asymmetrical aspect is good as well because I think that because each letter individually is usually symmetrical, the fact that they are made out of rubbish gives it the ability and excuse to be asymmetrical.

Q3. How can improvements be made and ideas developed further?

I think more minor details to the design could be made such as the tip of the 'A' or the spacing between the letters. Even making sure all the letters are the same size would work well too.

Q4. Using the S.W.O.T analysis, rate the overall aesthetics.

Strength - It's fun, colourful and easy to read.

Weakness - Nothing about this design is 'not working'. Maybe minor things could be improved:

Opportunities - The spacing and alignment of this design could be improved.

Threats - If anything could deny this work from succeeding, it may be that each letter has a different size.

Overall, I really like this design. I think it's fun and funky =D
