This is my second design for a CD cover - due to copyright reasons.
I have taken photos of my little sister acting cool in attempt to achieve a 'cool girls only' look, that hopefully would attract girls under the age of 15 yrs. I tried to portray a rock princess, with rock being the genre of music, inspired by the Hannah Montanas and Avril Lavignes of today.
Q1. Is there enough of a difference between formal and informal design?
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of rhythm in this design. I like the effect it gives - I think it is well suited to the design of the piece. It's balanced well with an informal aspect because there is very minimal symmetry.
Q2. Is the concept appropriate for informal?
This concept is very appropriate for an informal design because it is a design for teen girls who don't like following rules and they just want to wear what they like. It's perfect to match that mentality to the design of the CD cover.
Q3. How can improvements be made and ideas developed further?
I think the image of the girl could be less grainy so that she stands out a bit more. Also the 'Sassy No Rules' text could be brighter and maybe even have a white glow behind it so that it stands out from the background.
Q4. Using the S.W.O.T analysis, rate the overall aesthetics.
Strength - The design really appeals to the audience specified. I think girls under 15 would really go for something like this. The colours are used really well - linking the colours from her clothing to the background.
Weakness - The 'Sassy No Rules' text is too hard to read and wouldn't really stand out and catch the eye of a passer by.
Opportunities - The background on the back cover of the CD could be slightly transparent so that the songs titles stand out.
Threats - The only thing that might hold this design back from being accepted could be that it's very busy. Having the text stand out with a white glow behind it or having the girl less grainy might give it more contrast and make it easier to read I think.
But, overall I really think it speaks to the intended audience and it's done very well. I like how colourful it is.
