I took the task literally - I took the dot for a walk, trying to convey excitment, tiredness and frustration through the pace and position of the dot on the footpath.
I also tranformed the slouched, bored line into a smiley face to convey happiness when seeing his friend at Uni.
I drew all shapes in Photoshop, wanting to create an amature, colourful, cute little animation.
Q1. Is there enough of a difference between formal and informal design?
ReplyDeleteThis animation has good Rhythm and Unity as the dot moves from one page to the next. It is symmetrical in the sense that it uses the same form of design for each of the houses and you can tell that as it moves from scene to scene that it's going along the same path because of the houses. But the houses change - they're not always in the same place so in that sense it has good asymmetry. The continuity is done very well in that your ayes are following the dot everywhere it goes even when it jumps from scene to scene.
Q2. Is the concept appropriate for informal?
Because this is a light hearted 'amature, colourful and cute little animation', it absolutely has an appropriate design to be informal. If it was too formal and symmetrical, it wouldn't have the same fun aspect to it that it does.
Q3. How can improvements be made and ideas developed further?
Improvements could be made for the end of the animation, when the dot sees its friend and they go into uni together, I wasn't aware that the other thing was it's friend. I think because it was a different shape. But I like how they turned into smiley faces and then entered the uni.
Q4. Using the S.W.O.T analysis, rate the overall aesthetics.
Strength - Has a fun, quirky feel to it. It's colourful and consistent.
Weakness - The 'friend' dot at the end could be portrayed better - maybe as a similar shape to the first dot.
Opportunities - In the second scene where it's conveying tiredness and moving quite slowly, the colours could change slightly as it moves, to a more dull and 'sleepy' look.
Threats - The only thing that might not work in this animation, is that it could be hard to interpret in some parts. The information underneath was really helpful with interpreting it though.
Love it Peita :) - Cuuuute!
